Walkabouts 2025, sowing in Poland
Welcome back to Viking Malt’s Walkabouts in 2025!
In this series, we bring you insights straight from our fields and farmers. You’ll get a unique look at how we collaborate with our partners and share best practices in sustainable agriculture.
We’re kicking off 2025 in Poland, one of our home markets, with a visit to Piotr Zarzycki, who took advantage of a weather window to begin sowing spring barley. His focus is on maximizing the benefits of regenerative agriculture.
The field we visited was prepared for sowing back in early autumn. The crop residues were left over the winter as mulch, enriching the soil with essential nutrients and organic matter. Healthy soil starts with proper crop residue management! Just before sowing, light tillage was applied to ensure optimal growing conditions, which is especially important in this region.
